Going soft on Nancy Drew softcovers
Quick post here: I've just started reading a Nancy Drew paperback! As I mentioned to fellow members of the Nancy Drew Book Fans online group, it took me about half a year to be open to the possibility of reading anything beyond vol. 56 -- The Thirteenth Pearl -- of the original, matte yellow series. And, practically a year passed before I developed enough interest in the paperback Digests to want to read them and actually look for copies online. And I came across two which I snapped up at bargain price (always a cause of excitement for me!).
The books arrived a couple of days ago. And right now I'm in chapter 6 of one of them. I must say, I am enjoying it -- much more than expected!
I'm getting a kick out of retro elements in The Clue in the Camera, vol. 82. Check these out:
These are changes in the mysteries that I welcome, primarily because not only am I familiar with the elements featured in the story. I was in my youth during these times. Cassette tapes? I mastered the rewind-fast forward routine that I could eventually get to the start of a song pretty much simply by estimates.

Film cameras? Heading to the camera shop to either have a roll developed or have copies made from the negatives was the norm for years.
It suffices to say that I feel quite at home poring over these pages of a mystery involving Nancy, George and Hannah Gruen exploring San Francisco (Bess couldn't come along for the adventure), together with Hannah's good friend, the professional photographer Emily.
So, now I shall pick up where I left off last night and join the detective from River Heights in tailing criminals and pursuing clues to solve yet another mystery!
